The sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgment. (1 Tim 6:9-15)

12/11/2017

It is truly an incredible task to comprehend the sovereignty of God. I am not sure how you
felt when you read the above statement but I for one feel both a sense of dread and of
comfort.

I feel dread because the God who is sovereign over creation, revelation, redemption and
final judgement is also the God who is sovereign over me. That is to say God is the one
who rules over my life. And just between us, there is still much of my life that has, foolishly,
not been submitted to God. There are times I find myself saying to God, only up to here and
no further. Keep out of this God. Just let me get away with it this one time. Why God, why!
But I know that God will call me to give an account for my life, whether I like it or not and
His judgment will be just. For whatever it is, my righteousness and my sin will be laid bare
before God.

I feel comfort because the God who is sovereign over creation, revelation, redemption and
final judgment is also the God who is sovereign over cancer, family breakdowns,
disappointments, heartache, immorality, death and everything in between. It means that
God is able to make a difference. It means that nothing that happens to us is ever outside
of God’s good plans for the world. It means that the suffering in this life will never be in vain.
God who is sovereign over the trials we face is also sovereign in getting us through the
trials we face.

In 1 Timothy 6:15, God is referred to as the Only Sovereign. The original greek text says
God the monos dunates. He is the mono, singular, the one and only, who alone is dunates.
This is translated as king, ruler, or sovereign and is where the word dynasty comes from.
You see God is set apart from all other powers and authorities. God is the only sovereign,
the King of kings and the Lord of Lords and He has sent His Son, Jesus, to redeem us
through the most unlikely of means- his crucifixion- that we may share in God’s dynasty.
What sinful man intended for evil, God intended for good.

God is sovereign and He has a loving purpose for your life.

Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have
been called according to his purpose.
